Being Mad
I just got into an new addiction >> Mad Men !
Not only the concept of this TV serie is great but everything that is around.
It rings the bell of nostalgia. I always loved the 1950-1960′s fashion when men always wore hats and women could wear puffy dresses without having the excuse of going to a ballet or feeling all over dressed up ! Mad Men TV program brings back old glamourous fashion in our sad cold days of economic depression (or soon to be over one…).
However this ‘glamorous make up’ hides the reality of that time when women were only housewifes, black people doormen and homosexuals invisible…
It was also quite an “innocent” time for smokers and drinkers as you could smoke really everywhere you wanted to (offices, train, bars…); even pregnant women smoked and drank without guilt!
In Mad Men episodes you could witness all of that but also admire great pieces of fashion hanging around in the Sterling Cooper open space and offices. Indeed this neat post-war fashion almost outshines the characters (even if you could hardly deny the terrefic charm of Don Draper!). My eyes were all on the characters clothes and I could not stop wondering : How come are we now all dressed up like we just got out of bed ? Where are our hats, high heels, gloves and three pieces suit ?

As Brooks Brothers brand released a suit inspired by The Don Draper (for only $998 and was immediately sould out !!), we could wonder if we finally will go back to those days…when women were tied in Playtex corsages and men bound in their white shirts !
But in the picture they all look chic, happy and in the time of their life !!
Isn’t advertising glamorous ? Or is it the opposite..?
